Are you passionate about supporting children with Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) needs? We are working with an alternative provision school in Blackpool that is looking for a dedicated SEMH Teaching Assistant to join their team. This is an exciting opportunity for individuals who are looking to make a real difference in the lives of children while gaining valuable experience within a supportive school environment.
The Role:
As a SEMH Teaching Assistant, you will play a vital role in supporting students with emotional and behavioural challenges, helping them to engage in lessons and reach their educational goals. Your role will include:
- Supporting a child with SEMH needs on a 1:1 or small group basis, assisting with academic tasks, social skills development, and emotional regulation.
- Encouraging positive behaviour through a trauma-informed approach and providing pastoral care.
- Collaborating with teachers, SENCOs, and other staff to ensure each child's needs are met.
- Promoting a safe, inclusive, and supportive classroom environment.
- Helping to manage challenging behaviour with patience, empathy, and respect.
- Encouraging student independence and confidence.
About You:
We are looking for someone who is passionate about making a difference in the lives of children with SEMH needs. The ideal candidate will have:
- Experience working with children or young people with SEMH or additional learning needs (desirable but not essential).
- Strong communication skills and the ability to build positive relationships with students, staff, and parents.
- A patient, empathetic, and resilient approach.
- A commitment to promoting an inclusive, supportive learning environment.
- Level 2 or 3 Teaching Assistant qualification (or equivalent) is desirable but not necessary.
- A clear understanding of safeguarding procedures and a commitment to child protection.
