- Managing your own caseload of criminal defence matters, from initial instruction through to resolution.
- Attending police stations to represent clients during interviews under caution (if accredited).
- Preparing cases for Magistrates’ and Crown Court, including taking statements, liaising with counsel, and gathering evidence.
- Providing high-quality, client-focused advice, ensuring that clients understand their rights and the legal process.
- Working closely with solicitors and other legal professionals to ensure the smooth running of cases.
- Participating in the out-of-hours rota (if applicable), with additional pay for evening and weekend duties.
- Previous experience in criminal defence law, either as a fee earner or paralegal.
- Police Station Accreditation (desirable but not essential).
- Strong understanding of criminal procedure and client care.
- Excellent communication, organisational, and time-management skills.
- Ability to manage a busy caseload with confidence and autonomy.
- A collaborative and proactive approach, with a genuine interest in defending clients’ rights.
- A full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle would be beneficial.
