About the Role

We are seeking a skilled and motivated Automatic Gate & Barrier Maintenance Engineer to join our facilities maintenance team within a busy Utilities Facility. The successful candidate will be responsible for the effective and efficient maintenance, repair, and servicing of automatic gate systems, including rapid roller shutters, security barriers, sliding gates, and other mechanical and electrical (M&E) building services.

This role is ideal for a proactive and multi-skilled engineer with strong problem-solving abilities and a commitment to delivering high-quality work in a safety-conscious environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Carry out reactive and planned preventative maintenance (PPM) on automatic gate systems and related M&E assets.
  • Respond promptly and effectively to breakdowns and reactive repair requests, ensuring minimal downtime.
  • Support and prioritise maintenance activities to achieve optimum levels of service delivery.
  • Conduct installations and repairs of electrical and mechanical plant as required.
  • Maintain all relevant QHSE documentation, including logbooks, hazard reports, and competency records.
  • Adhere strictly to Health & Safety procedures and company policies at all times.
  • Provide excellent customer service and maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders.
  • Participate in emergency callouts and attend relevant training to support ongoing professional development.
  • Identify and implement innovative solutions to enhance performance and operational efficiency.

Person Specification

Education & Qualifications

  • Good standard of education with strong written and verbal English and basic mathematical ability.
  • Recognised technical qualifications in mechanical and/or electrical engineering.
  • 18th Edition Wiring Regulations (BS7671) and NVQ Level 3 (or equivalent) preferred.

Skills & Attributes

  • Highly organised, structured, and capable of planning workload effectively.
  • Strong diagnostic and fault-finding skills across mechanical and electrical systems.
  • Excellent attention to detail with a methodical approach to maintenance tasks.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Knowledge & Experience

  • Proven experience maintaining and repairing automatic gates, barriers, or access control systems.
  • Understanding of mechanical/electrical engineering principles and building services systems.
  • Experience with PPM regimes, installation work, and fault-finding.
  • Familiarity with risk assessments, lone working protocols, and safe systems of work.
  • Experience within utilities, manufacturing, or facilities environments preferred.
