GSL Education are seeking a compassionate and resilient SEMH Teaching Assistant to join a supportive school environment in Blyth. About the Role:

As a SEMH Teaching Assistant, you will work closely with students requiring additional emotional, behavioural and learning support. You’ll help create a nurturing space where pupils feel safe, understood and capable of reaching their full potential.

Key Responsibilities of the SEMH TA:

  • Provide 1:1 and group support for pupils with SEMH needs.
  • Assist class teachers with creating and delivering engaging learning activities.
  • Implement behaviour management strategies and promote positive behaviour.
  • Support students with emotional regulation and confidence-building.
  • Work collaboratively with teachers, SENCOs, and external agencies.

Requirements for the SEMH Teaching Assistant role:

  • Experience working with children or young people with SEMH needs in an educational or care setting.
  • Relevant qualifications (e.g., CACHE Level 2/3, Team Teach, Youth Work, Psychology) are desirable but not essential.
  • A genuine passion for supporting vulnerable learners and promoting mental well-being.
  • Understanding of trauma-informed and person-centred support strategies.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills to build trust with pupils.
  • Ability to remain calm, patient and consistent in challenging situations.
  • Enhanced Child Workforce DBS registered on the Update Service (or willingness to apply through GSL Education).
