We are seeking a Legal Assistant to join our Adult Social Care Legal Team. This role offers a hybrid working model and is ideal for candidates who are adaptable and can manage both in-office and remote work environments effectively. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to apply for a permanent position in due course.

Day-to-day of the role:
  • Draft and prepare basic legal documents such as summonses, applications, chronologies, briefs to Counsel, and court bundles.
  • Provide comprehensive legal and administrative support to solicitors, including preparing and issuing documents, setting up computerised files, and arranging for the filing and service of statements.
  • Coordinate with various stakeholders to arrange conferences with Counsel, attend hearings, and take notes at tribunals and committees.
  • Actively participate as a team member within the Legal Services Division, contributing to team meetings and projects.
  • Research legal points and procedures under the guidance of a lawyer and advise the public, council members, and other officers on matters within your area of responsibility.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
  • Understanding of relevant laws such as the Children Act, Care Act, Mental Capacity Act, and Data Protection Act, depending on the team (Children’s, Adults, Corporate, Environment).
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
  • Proven ability to draft and prepare documentation accurately for legal and court cases.
  • Strong organisational skills with the ability to prioritise work to meet deadlines.
  • Proficiency in using IT software including case management systems.
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
  • Relevant legal qualification (e.g., ILEX, NVQ, Law Degree) or experience in a legal role is preferred.
