Commercial Dispute Resolution Lawyer (4+ Years’ PQE)Location: Bournemouth
We are looking for an experienced Commercial Dispute Resolution Lawyer (4+ years’ experience) to advance their career within our established and award-winning firm, as a member of our Dispute Resolution department. In this role, you will lead the new Bournemouth office’s Disputes Resolution team and mentor junior team members, whilst undertaking a diverse commercial disputes caseload.
This position would see the successful candidate joining an impressive regional team, representing a range of leading companies on business-critical and high calibre commercial litigation. The team is an integral part of what makes this firm a success and plays a vital role in keeping the firm at the forefront of the business community in the region.
Principal Duties & Responsibilities:
- Case load – conducting one’s own case load of civil litigation with a focus on large commercial and contractual disputes, partnership, director and shareholder disputes, insolvency and property litigation as well as regulatory matters
- Client representation – meeting with clients to understand their case/issues and objectives, provide legal advice and explain the legal process, timescale and provide a fee estimate
- Legal document preparation – drafting letters of claim and response, statements of case, witness statements, court documents and other legal documents
- Case management – managing and tracking court and other deadlines, liaising with other professionals as necessary, managing the overall litigation process
- Court representation – representing clients in court, presenting evidence and examining/cross-examining witnesses
- Dispute resolution – exploring alternative dispute resolution methods, such as mediation or negotiation, to reach a settlement
About You:
You will be responsible for running their own litigation cases and must possess the following attributes:
- Effective communication – including clear, concise and jargon free communication with all parties
- Be capable of working independently and autonomously
- Attention to detail – including the ability to identify swiftly any issues which may present a barrier to resolving a dispute
- Teamwork and mentoring – work collaboratively with other departments and disciplines across Paris Smith as well as supervising and mentoring junior lawyers
- Sound technical knowledge of process and procedure in dispute resolution/commercial litigation in the High Court, County Court and alternative dispute resolution forums
- Be empathetic and positive
- Be eager to work for a firm with a team culture, founded on shared values and with a clear sense of purpose
- Business development – a strong desire to be part of the continued development of the practice particularly in the Dorset region. Ideally, the applicant will already have established relationships within the Dorset area, albeit this is not a pre-requisite
