We are seeking a compassionate and professional Bereavement Care Assistant to join our dedicated team. This role is integral to providing a high-quality, responsive bereavement service that meets the needs of the bereaved while adhering to the Charter for the Bereaved. You will play a key role in ensuring the dignified and efficient transfer and cremation of human remains, as well as supporting ceremony services and memorial activities.
This is a full-time position, working Monday to Friday, 8:30am to 4:30pm, totaling 37 hours per week, with a competitive hourly rate of £13.69 per hour.
ResponsibilitiesAs a Bereavement Care Assistant, your key responsibilities will include:
- Safely transferring coffins between bereavement sites using the in-house conveyancing vehicle.
- Maintaining the conveyancing vehicle, ensuring it is clean, refueled, and in safe working condition.
- Assisting with ceremony services, including preparing ceremony spaces, operating digital tribute systems, and guiding attendees.
- Conducting communal and witness scatters of cremated remains in designated memorial grounds.
- Supporting the safe operation of the crematory, including the handling and processing of cremated remains.
- Performing cleaning duties in ceremony spaces, public areas, and memorial grounds.
- Carrying out low-level maintenance and groundskeeping tasks as required.
- Providing exceptional customer service to the bereaved, funeral directors, and other service users.
To be successful in this role, you will need:
- A full and clean UK driving licence (Category B).
- At least one year of experience driving a light van (up to 3.5 tonnes).
- The ability to lift up to 50kg and manoeuvre weights of up to 190kg using approved lifting aids.
- Knowledge of the funeral or bereavement trade (desirable).

- Collaborating with team members to ensure the smooth operation of bereavement services.
