Overview:
The purpose of a Design Engineer is to design cable containment products to meet industry and customer requirements. Using 3D CAD software to create detailed models and drawings, ensuring designs are optimised for manufacture. The role involves leading design projects that include the redevelopment of existing and creation of new product ranges.
The Design Engineer is also responsible for creating technical specifications, troubleshooting production issues, liaising with customers, and collaborating with various departments across the business.
Main Responsibilities:
Lead and aid in the design, development, and introduction of new products and redesign of existing ones.
Produce 3D designs of products, including production and dimension drawings for customers.
Assist in the creation of marketing materials.
Populate product data for the set-up of part codes and bills of materials.
Organise production of prototypes and testing to ensure correct function, form, and fit of designs.
Create loading information and tables.
Plan and carry out product testing.
Support technical and design teams within the group.
Design customer specials and produce associated technical information.
Answer technical enquiries.
Work closely with the production team during design projects to ensure suitability for manufacture, making adjustments where needed.
Seek ways to improve existing designs for efficiency, performance, and ease of manufacture.
Troubleshoot and resolve production issues related to design and manufacturing processes.
Produce flat patterns for product manufacturing.
Assist in carrying out product training.
Perform CAM programming.
Skills & Qualifications:
Minimum degree level in an engineering subject (e.g. Mechanical or Manufacturing).
Minimum of 18 months' experience in a design-related role, ideally within manufacturing or industrial environments.
Experience of 3D CAD is essential (preferably SolidWorks).
Basic understanding of Quality Management Systems and ISO 9001.
Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.
Ability to interact effectively with team members, management, and external organisations.
