VGC are pleased to be supporting our client, a global name providing world class engineering solutions to the Construction, Energy, Transportation and Aviation sectors. Our client have a brilliant opportunity within their Transmission & Distribution team. This role is working as an EHV Substation Senior Project Manager, delivering pre-construction and construction activities, from design to energisation, on large scale HV infrastructure and grid connection projects from 33kv to 400kv.

You will be involved from feasibility, through detailed design, procurement, construction, testing and commissioning of Substation new builds or upgrades.

We are looking for a Design Project Engineer who can:

  • Produce a comprehensive suite of design drawings for Grid and Primary substations.

  • Prepare technical specifications for electrical plant and deliver associated electrical designs for substation upgrades and new-build projects from 11kV up to and including 132kV.

  • Develop substation feasibility studies, including cost estimates, layouts, general arrangements (GAs), and detailed plant specifications covering transformers, switchgear, and battery systems.

  • Review designs produced by suppliers and clients to ensure technical compliance with current standards, legislation, and policies.

  • Ensure all designs are delivered in accordance with contract requirements, client specifications, and agreed quality standards.

  • Undertake the role of CDM Designer and/or Principal Designer for HV and EHV projects, ensuring regulatory compliance.

  • Identify, communicate, and manage health and safety risks and hazards, ensuring they are effectively addressed by the project team.

  • Attend site meetings to support design development and manage any design or requirement changes during the construction phase.

 

What We’re Looking For:

  • Minimum HNC in Electrical Engineering or equivalent.

  • Proven experience managing medium to large-scale EHV cable projects (33kV up to and including 132kV) across the full project lifecycle, from initiation, specification and design, through tendering, construction and energisation, to project close-out.

  • Strong understanding of electrical distribution plant, including switchgear, power transformers, and overhead lines.

  • Working knowledge of relevant engineering standards and industry regulations.

  • Excellent understanding of health, safety, and CDM requirements.

  • Ability to undertake the role of CDM Designer and/or Principal Designer in accordance with CDM regulations.

  • Willingness and ability to travel to client sites and offices across the North East of England and Yorkshire.

On offer is a salary up to £90,000, along with a car allowance and a leading benefits package. This role can be based in Leeds, Newcastle, Manchester or within reach of any of these locations.
