We are working with a special needs school based in Bradford where their pupils always come first.

The pupils are aged 2 to 11 with severe learning difficulties, profound and complex needs and therefore the Teaching Assistant may have to undertake personal care.

As a Teaching Assistant you will be supporting pupils with severe learning difficulties and profound, complex needs in accessing education and achieving their full potential. This includes providing personal care, assisting with communication, and supporting learning difficulties under the guidance of the class teacher and SEN team.

Key Responsibilities include:
Assist pupils with personal care in a respectful and dignified manner
Support pupils with physical disabilities, medical needs, and sensory impairments
Help implement individual education plans and behaviour support strategies
Facilitate communication using AAC tools, Makaton or other systems
Promote social, emotional, and physical development through structured activities
Maintain a safe and inclusive learning environment
Work collaboratively with teachers, therapists, and other professionals
Record and report pupil progress and any concerns promptly

Essential Skills & Qualities:
Empathy & patience
The ability to follow safeguarding and confidentiality protocols
Excellent communication skills - verbal and non-verbal
Team player with a flexible and proactive approach
Physically able to assist with moving and handling pupils safely

Qualifications & Experience
Teaching Assistant Level 2 or equivalent as a minimum standard
Experience of working with SEN Children and Young people
Trained in personal care, moving and handling and safeguarding
Knowledge of communication systems eg Makaton/PECS or something similar

For this role of SEN Teaching Assistant you will require an enhanced DBS with the update service and provide a minimum of 2 years references in a similar role.
