Futures recruitment are looking to appoint a hands on Engineering Manager to take ownership of the in-house engineering and maintenance function of a well established manufacturing business. This is a pivotal, role for an ambitious leader who thrives on combining technical problem-solving with the development and management of a large, high-performing team.

In this role, you’ll balance strategic leadership with practical involvement on the shop floor, driving engineering standards, implementing robust systems, and embedding lean methodologies that deliver measurable results.

Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Lead and inspire a multidisciplinary engineering and maintenance team, fostering a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
  • Drive equipment reliability and plant performance through robust TPM and PPM programmes.
  • Champion operational excellence through the adoption of Lean, Six Sigma, and TPM tools.
  • Ensure compliance with all Health, Safety, and Environmental standards.
  • Manage budgets effectively, from day-to-day costs to the delivery of complex capital expenditure projects.
  • Recruit, train, and mentor engineers at all levels, building capability to support long-term growth.
  • Be actively involved when needed—supporting diagnostics, problem-solving, and coaching team members directly on best practices.

Skills and qualifications:

  • HNC/HND (or equivalent) in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering.
  • A proven track record in leading and growing large engineering/maintenance teams within manufacturing.
  • Strong hands-on engineering background, with the ability to balance technical detail with high-level leadership.
  • Solid knowledge of Lean Manufacturing, TPM, OEE, SPC, and CMMS implementation.
  • Excellent communication and influencing skills, with a leadership style that inspires confidence and motivates teams.
