Road Worker/ LGV Driver


JOB PURPOSE:

Working as part of a team and to agreed daily/weekly work schedules to undertake repairs, clearing and maintenance of roads, highways, drains and gullies using plant and machinery where required.


PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES AND ACTIVITIES:

To undertake minor and routine planned and unplanned maintenance of the Highways asset infrastructure, such as potholing and patching, kerb and path edging replacements, fencing, hazarding, minor drainage works and site clearances.

To undertake planned minor and routine civil works to non-adopted highway related areas such as schools, parks, rights of way and property assets.

To operate a variety of Highway vehicles, plant and tools in a safe and proper manner, undertaking safety checks and notifying any defects.

Use of equipment and machinery for the highway maintenance including mechanical rollers, road saws, dumper trucks, strimmers, hedge cutters in a safe and proper manner, undertaking safety checks and notifying any defects.

To work in combination with colleagues in the discharging of duties.

Erecting traffic management signs and cones in accordance with the code of practice (Safety at Street Works and Road Works) to operate in a controlled and safe environment.

Participate in an out of hours Emergency Call out and a Winter Maintenance rota undertaking necessary duties and tasks.

To actively participate in good Health and Safety practices and operate in a safe and responsible manner.


GENERAL DUTIES

To undertake the Health and Safety responsibilities which fall within your role and the personal Health and Safety responsibilities within the HASAWA 1974.

To ensure that all activities are operated in accordance with Equal Opportunities legislation and Best Practice.

Knowledge & Experience

Current Driving Licence (Must have a Category C1, C1E and C to qualify for higher rate)

Knowledge of basic road construction techniques, including drainage, fencing and groundworks.

Understanding of traffic management and maintenance of chapter 8.

Experience of driving and operating a variety of vehicles including, Dumper trucks, Vans , Crew Cabs and tippers

Experience of operating small plant/tools e.g. strimmers, impact bracers, compactors, hedge cutters
