About the Role
We are seeking an enthusiastic and creative Teacher of Design & Technology to join an Outstanding independent special school in Somerset. This is an exciting opportunity to inspire and engage students with SEMH and SEND needs through practical, hands-on learning in DT. You will deliver a broad and balanced curriculum, fostering creativity, problem-solving, and technical skills in a supportive, therapeutic environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Plan and deliver high-quality DT lessons across KS3 and KS4, tailored to individual needs.
- Develop engaging projects in areas such as resistant materials, product design, and CAD/CAM.
- Promote a safe and inclusive learning environment, ensuring compliance with health and safety standards.
- Assess and monitor student progress, providing constructive feedback and support.
- Contribute to the wider school community, including extracurricular activities and enrichment opportunities.
Requirements
Essential:
- Qualified Teacher Status (QTS/QTLS) or equivalent.
- Experience teaching Design & Technology at secondary level.
- Strong classroom management and ability to differentiate for diverse learning needs.
- Right to work in the UK
- Enhanced Child Workforce DBS (or willing to apply for one)
Desirable:
- Experience working with students with SEMH or SEND.
- Knowledge of trauma-informed and therapeutic approaches.
- Familiarity with vocational pathways and practical workshop skills.
