Assistant Project Manager (Mechanical)

Certain Advantage are proud to be supporting a growing International Engineering services contractor who partner with renowned energy and government customers in solving engineering and technological challenges.

They are heavily supporting a large UK Nuclear Energy customer in delivering major programme and project management capabilities throughout the project lifecycle.

They have an opportunity as an Assistant Project Manager near Bridgewater on the HPC build, specifically on the Equipment Programme that will be delivering the bulk of the mechanical, electrical and process equipment that will form the working HPC power station.

In this programme, the contracts could be for discrete components or complete systems and will be delivered in partnership with a global supply chain. Contracts range from 250k to 150m. Input design is completed by the customer's Responsible Designer, with the detail design completed by the equipment supplier.

As the Assistant PM, your key responsibilities will be:

  • Lead/support and assist on tasks required to support the Project Manager's delivery of the project and contract scope for HPC.
  • Support PM to undertake all contract administration activities (with support of a Commercial Manager) including variations, claims, technical queries and instructions, using CEMAR.
  • Liaise and interface with the other key teams on specific tasks which are required to support the principal task of delivery of the project and contract
    scope for HPC.
  • Participate in providing support to the Team with regard to compliance with approved procedures.
  • Participate in developing the relationships with key stakeholders for the HPC project
  • Support the project management functions of the technical work streams to help ensure they are completed on time and on budget, supporting the
    management of commercial and technical Work through all phases of the project, including management and coordination of responses to Technical Queries.
  • Inputs to weekly and monthly Performance Reporting
  • Live updates of the Project Definition Document
  • Implement strategies and plans in line with the overall Programme Definition Document (PgDD), setting out how the programme of work will be managed, organised and executed.
  • Maintaining configuration control of Works Information

Your Experience

  • Track record of delivering projects within a technically complex and dynamic environment whilst ensuring high levels of safety, security and environmental responsibility, ideally within the Nuclear Energy sector or similar regulated environment.
  • Able to demonstrate strong management skills including project management, financial management, change management and facilitation. Proficient in the use of estimating scheduling, programming and risk tools.
  • Experience of managing contractors, consultants and other advisors throughout large and complex construction projects, in a regulated environment.
  • Good presentation, influencing and facilitation skills. Excellent communication and organisational skills, able to develop relationships and maintain effective networks.
  • Degree and chartered status in an engineering, construction, physics or other related field.
  • Knowledge and / or practitioner of Project Management with experience of applying either; APM body of knowledge and OGC's Prince 2.
