Managing Quantity Surveyor / Senior Quantity Surveyor

Bridgwater and South Bristol
 

The Company
A well-established civil engineering contractor with a strong reputation across the South and Southwest is looking to appoint a Managing Quantity Surveyor or an experienced Senior Quantity Surveyor ready to step up. The business delivers major earthworks and civils packages and is continuing to expand its commercial team to support a significant NEC4 project based in the Bridgwater area.

The main office is located south of Bristol. A location commutable to both Bridgwater and South Bristol would be ideal, although applicants based south of Bridgwater will still be considered.

The Opportunity
This is an excellent career opportunity for someone who wants to take ownership of complex, high-value civil engineering works within an experienced and supportive commercial function. The role offers scope for progression to MQS level for the right Senior Quantity Surveyor.

Key Responsibilities
In this role you will provide full commercial management across the project. Typical duties include:
• Acting as a key commercial representative and attending regular progress and client meetings
• Preparing and submitting interim and final applications for payment, ensuring entitlements are fully captured
• Leading the preparation, negotiation and agreement of final accounts
• Producing weekly cost and value reports, delivery schedules and KPI updates
• Managing change control processes and negotiating variations
• Preparing monthly cost and value reconciliations with accurate forecasts
• Developing forward work schedules and cash flow projections
• Procuring and managing subcontractors and material orders
• Overseeing commercial performance of subcontractors through to final account
• Ensuring all contractual notices and records are issued in accordance with NEC4 requirements
• Reviewing site records to support valuations, variation claims and submissions
• Providing commercial guidance to site teams and supporting contracts management
• Assisting Estimating and Procurement teams when required
• Mentoring junior members of the commercial team
• Building and maintaining positive working relationships with clients and project stakeholders

About You
We are looking for a proactive and commercially focused professional with:
• Proven experience in Quantity Surveying within civil engineering, earthworks or related sectors
• A strong understanding of NEC contracts, ideally NEC4
• Excellent communication and client-facing skills
• Strong analytical and reporting abilities with attention to detail
• Competence in Microsoft Office and standard project management systems
• The ability to work independently as well as part of a wider team
• A dependable and organised approach with a commitment to delivering high standards
