Drive Commercial Strategy Across a Major Defence FM Contract

A high-impact opportunity has arisen for an experienced Quantity Surveyor to provide strategic commercial leadership across a wide-ranging facilities management contract, supporting defence estate sites across the North of England. This role is pivotal in ensuring cost control, contract compliance, and financial efficiency across both core and billable works.

The Role

Covering a diverse portfolio of sites, you will work closely with Area Managers, Project Managers, and the wider Commercial Team, while engaging regularly with external stakeholders including the Defence Infrastructure Organisation (DIO) and site end users.

You will take ownership of commercial processes such as pricing, contract change management, supplier engagement, milestone payments, and reconciliation of final accounts. A key part of your responsibility will include managing change under the FDIS contract, guiding the supply chain through pricing and tender activities, and ensuring high standards of performance.

Additional responsibilities include:
  • Supporting dispute avoidance and resolution
  • Assisting with commercial risk assessments and cost control
  • Maintaining commercial documentation, reports, and adjudications
  • Contributing to stakeholder relationship plans and promoting collaborative standards (BS11000)
As a trusted advisor, you will influence decisions, provide commercial clarity, and drive collaborative practices that support operational excellence and strategic goals. Your insights and guidance will be essential in maintaining transparency and commercial rigour across a high-profile contract.

What You Bring
  • HND/Foundation Degree (or equivalent experience) in Quantity Surveying
  • At least 4 years of commercial experience within construction, FM, or property maintenance
  • Strong track record in cost modelling, contract negotiation, and supplier management
  • Confident working with complex contracts and multi-site operations
  • Experience within the defence or military estate (desirable)
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and stakeholder engagement skills
  • Ability to travel regularly across the North of England (full UK driving licence required)
  • Eligible for security clearance
This role is ideal for someone commercially astute and strategically minded, with the drive to lead from the front and the agility to adapt in a fast-paced, mission-driven environment.

  • 6% matched pension contribution
