Our client is seeking an experienced and driven Transport & logistics Manager to take full ownership of their national fleet of 100+ commercial vans and 8 company cars. This includes managing all aspects of vehicle maintenance, compliance, budgeting, and performance, as well as implementing a new Field Service Management (FSM) system — featuring route optimisation, capacity management, and technician diary scheduling.

This role is essential to ensuring that the mobile workforce remains compliant, efficient, and fully supported. You'll work closely with internal stakeholders and external partners, including the van manufactures service centres, to deliver a high-performing, cost-effective fleet operation that supports their field-based services across the UK.

Key Responsibilities

Fleet & Vehicle Management

  • Oversee a fleet of 100+ vans and 9 company cars operating across the UK.
  • Manage all vehicle servicing, breakdowns, MOTs, repairs, and accident handling.
  • Coordinate manufacturer-level support through a strategic partnership.
  • Ensure all vehicles remain roadworthy, safe, and fit for purpose.
  • Maintain accurate fleet records including insurance, service logs, and tax documentation.

Route Optimisation & FSM Implementation

  • Take the lead in deploying and optimising a new FSM system with features including:
  • Route planning and optimisation
  • Capacity and workforce load balancing
  • Real-time technician diary and job allocation
  • Work closely with operational teams to ensure accurate and efficient scheduling.
  • Use data from FSM and telematics systems to reduce travel time, improve technician utilisation, and enhance customer experience.

Compliance & Legal Requirements

  • Ensure full compliance with DVSA standards and all relevant transport legislation.
  • Maintain records for vehicle checks, driver compliance, licence validations, and H&S.
  • Oversee the management of penalties, incident logs, insurance claims, and audit readiness.
  • Ensure company policies are aligned with UK transport laws and best practices.

Budget & Cost Management

  • Own the transport and fleet budget, including forecasting, tracking, and cost reduction.
  • Monitor and report on fuel consumption, mileage, maintenance costs, and usage patterns.
  • Lead procurement and performance management of key suppliers and partners.
  • Review and negotiate leasing, servicing, and fuel card contracts to maximise value.

Leadership & Collaboration

  • Line manages a team of 2 (with plans for future expansion).
  • Provide coaching, 1:2:1's performance reviews, and development plans for team members.
  • Collaborate with Operations, HR, and Finance teams to support business objectives.
  • Deliver regular reports and performance insights to the Operations Director.

Essential Requirements

  • Proven experience managing a UK-wide fleet in a transport/fleet/field-based operation.
  • Strong knowledge of UK transport regulations, compliance, and fleet operations.
  • Hands-on experience with route optimisation software and workforce scheduling tools.
  • Track record of managing fleet budgets, supplier contracts, and cost controls.
  • Excellent problem-solving, organisational, and communication skills.
  • Proficient in fleet and telematics systems, with a data-driven approach to decision-making.
  • Full UK Driving Licence.
