About the Role

As an SEMH Teaching Assistant, you'll be working with pupils aged 14-16 who experience social, emotional, and mental health challenges. You'll provide essential support both in and outside the classroom, helping to create a calm, positive, and structured learning environment. The SEMH Teaching Assistant will play a key part in guiding students to reach their potential academically, socially, and emotionally.

This is a full-time position, five days per week, offering the chance to make a genuine impact on the lives of young people who need consistency, patience, and encouragement.

Responsibilities

  • Support the class teacher in delivering engaging and accessible learning.
  • Use proactive and restorative behaviour management strategies to promote a safe, positive learning environment.
  • Provide targeted one-to-one or small group support for pupils with SEMH needs.
  • Encourage positive relationships, self-regulation, and emotional growth.
  • Collaborate closely with teaching staff, therapists, and parents.
  • Contribute to the inclusive and supportive ethos of the school.

The Ideal SEMH Teaching Assistant Will Have

  • Previous experience as a Teaching Assistant, Learning Support Assistant, or similar role.
  • Strong behaviour management and de-escalation skills.
  • A caring, calm, and resilient personality with a passion for supporting children with additional needs.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
  • A relevant qualification in education or special needs support (desirable but not essential).
