We are currently seeking an experienced Construction Design Manager to join a major 40m prison project based near Bristol. This is a fantastic freelance opportunity with a highly regarded Tier 1 Contractor, offering involvement in a complex and high-profile build.

The Role:
As the Design Manager, you will be responsible for overseeing and coordinating all aspects of design development throughout the project lifecycle. You will ensure that design information is managed and delivered in line with project programme, client requirements, and quality expectations.

Key Responsibilities:

Manage the design process from pre-construction through to project delivery
Liaise with clients, consultants, and subcontractors to ensure design compliance
Manage technical reviews and ensure buildability
Lead design meetings and workshops
Ensure timely production of design information to meet project deadlines
Coordinate and resolve design issues during the construction phase
Support with risk management and value engineering initiatives

Requirements:

Previous experience working on large prison projects is essential
Experience managing design processes for complex, secure sites
Previous work with a Tier 1 contractor highly advantageous
Strong communication, coordination, and leadership skills
Good understanding of construction methodologies and buildability issues
Able to work independently and proactively drive the design programme
Relevant qualifications in Construction Management, Architecture, or Engineering
