The Hideaway @ Discovery isnt only a café, its an education setting for BTEC students to earn qualifications studying hospitality. Therefore it is essential that the successful candidate is friendly, supportive, patient, and willing to foster an environment conducive for learning.
Our newly opened café needs a motivated Chef / Kitchen Manager to join the team to help shape the future of the café. We are looking for someone to collaborate with, and report into the General Manager to help shift towards a more breakfast / brunch focused café. The successful candidate will be crucial to help develop the new menu.
A chef able to create innovative cakes and bakes would be a bonus.
Role Overview:
We are seeking an enthusiastic, reliable Chef / Kitchen Manager to join us who is willing to collaborate with the team to bring fresh ideas to ensure the success of the café.
You will be responsible for preparing high-quality dishes, maintaining kitchen hygiene standards, wastage reporting and contributing to menu development. Ad hoc events also make up part of this job role, where bespoke menus will need to be created; so a flair for presentation and ability to create and serve banquet and buffet style food will be necessary.
This is an exciting opportunity to work 5/7 days, bringing your creativity to a supportive and friendly environment, with no split shifts and fantastic work life balance where kitchen opening hours are Monday Saturday, 9am-3pm.
Key Responsibilities:
- Running your shifts with energy, efficiency, and high standards
- Maintaining top Health and Safety, EHO and food hygiene practices
- Assist in planning and developing menus - including being responsible for GP analysis
- Managing orders, stock, prep, and wastage with a smart, efficient approach
- Cooking and serving great food to consistent standards
- Managing food preparation and service during busy periods
- Working efficiently as part of a small team, with a willingness to support the BTEC students and maintain a positive kitchen culture
Requirements:
- Proven experience as a chef in a café, or similar setting
- Passion for fresh, quality food and creative cooking and baking
- Strong knowledge of food hygiene and health & safety standards
- Ability to work well under pressure and in a fast-paced environment
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills
- A good understanding of GP analysis
- Event catering experience
Desirable:
- Food Safety Level 3
- Experience in supporting / teaching up and coming chefs
- Knowledge of sustainability practices in kitchens
- Ability to start at the beginning of November
