CNC Programmer (CAD/CAM Engineer)

Are you an experienced CNC programmer familiar with a strong understanding of CNC Machining processes and tooling?

Do you have experience with creating 3d models and toolpaths for complex components?

Can you create and optimise CAD models and CAM programs?

Then get in touch! We are recruiting for skilled, CAD CAM Engineer for a client of ours in the Bristol area. The right candidate will be an experienced engineer with vast CAD/CAM knowledge (Fusion360 is desirable) with a background in CNC Manufacturing.

The Role:

You will support the manufacturing operations by developing accurate and efficient CNC programs, models, and tooling strategies, working closely with engineering, production and quality teams to ensure parts are programmed, set, and manufactured safely, on time, and to specification. The responsibilities are:

  • Create, develop, and optimise CAD models and CAM programs for CNC machining operations
  • Generate toolpaths, workholding strategies, and setup sheets for production
  • Interpret engineering drawings, 3D models, and technical specifications
  • Support new product introduction and continuous improvement activities
  • Work with machinists and operators to prove out programs and resolve issues on the shop floor
  • Select cutting tools, speeds/feeds, and machining strategies to maximise quality and efficiency
  • Maintain revision control of programs, models, and documentation

About you:

  • Experience in a CAD/CAM programming role within a manufacturing environment (CNC milling and/or turning)
  • Strong understanding of CNC machining processes, tooling, and workholding
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and GD&T
  • Experience creating 3D models and toolpaths for complex components
  • Problem-solving mindset and hands-on approach with production teams
  • Good communication and teamwork skills
  • Experience with Fusion 360 is highly advantageous
  • Experience with other CAD/CAM platforms (e.g., Mastercam, Edgecam, Hypermill, SolidCAM, etc.) will also be considered
