Data Engineer required by a market leading, award winning, professional services organisation based in Central Bristol. This is a hybrid role with 2-3 days a week onsite with flexibility.

This specialist role plays a vital part in ensuring data is accurately captured, securely managed, and effectively translated into meaningful insights that inform key business decisions.

Role Overview:

This position involves managing a variety of data systems, ensuring integrity and performance across platforms. The successful candidate will be instrumental in developing and maintaining reporting tools, collaborating with internal teams to meet business needs, and helping to implement new technologies such as Microsoft Fabric.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Configure and manage SQL Server environments, ensuring system reliability and scalability.
  • Build and refine data storage systems such as warehouses and lakes for improved data access and performance.
  • Monitor databases for efficiency, adjusting queries and indexes where necessary.
  • Create and maintain business intelligence reports and dashboards using tools like Power BI and SSRS.
  • Develop robust ETL processes to gather and transform data from multiple systems.
  • Design and maintain database components including tables, views, and stored procedures.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to define reporting needs and translate them into practical solutions.
  • Validate data accuracy across reporting tools and source systems.
  • Maintain clear documentation for reports, data sources, and technical workflows.
  • Contribute to the adoption and integration of Microsoft Fabric and AI-enabled reporting features.
  • Provide end-user training and ongoing support for reporting platforms.
  • Support third-line troubleshooting and escalate complex technical issues when needed.
  • Stay current with industry trends, particularly in Microsoft technologies, data visualisation, and automation.

Required Skills and Experience:

  • Strong expertise in database design and data architecture.
  • Hands-on experience with Microsoft SQL Server, Power BI, SSRS, and SSIS.
  • Proficient in writing complex SQL queries and managing large datasets.
  • Analytical mindset with a structured approach to problem-solving.
  • Comfortable working independently as well as within a collaborative environment.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement abilities.
  • Proven experience in business analysis, including requirements gathering and documentation.
  • A strong focus on delivering high-quality, customer-centric solutions.
  • Knowledge of data governance principles and best practices is essential.
  • Exposure to Microsoft Fabric and AI-driven reporting tools is highly desirable.
