Field Service Maintenance Engineer

We are seeking a Field-Based Maintenance Service Engineer to join a highly successful FMCG business, covering the South West region. This is an exciting opportunity for a technically skilled and client-focused Engineer with experience in FMCG production.

If you're currently a Production Engineer looking to move into a more client-facing and strategically impactful role, this could be the perfect opportunity. The successful candidate will play a key role in fault finding and diagnosing production flow issues, working closely with site engineers and senior leadership teams to ensure seamless operations and continuous improvement across production lines.

You’ll work in a dynamic, field-based role with significant autonomy and influence. You'll have the chance to shape production efficiencies and client relationships while growing within a supportive technical team.

Key Responsibilities

  • Diagnose and troubleshoot technical and quality issues in production processes.
  • Deliver on-site technical support and solutions to clients and plants across the South West region. Develop and implement effective strategies to resolve technical issues efficiently.
  • Maintain accurate records and provide detailed root cause reports to clients and management.
  • Collaborate with clients to understand their technical needs and provide tailored solutions.
  • Manage your diary and schedule monthly on-site client review meetings, discussing challenges, maintenance, and technical production issues.
  • Ensure optimal performance of equipment by conducting regular maintenance and updates.
  • Handle client quality complaints related to product production issues, working collaboratively with relevant departments to find resolutions.
  • Ensure compliance with industry standards and health & safety regulations.
  • Provide technical advice and training to clients and production staff as needed.
  • Produce detailed fault-finding reports, ensuring all information is accurate, clearly documented, and effectively communicated to relevant stakeholders, including site engineers and senior leadership.

Key Skills & Qualifications

  • Background in a technical or engineering role within manufacturing (FMCG experience is essential).
  • Proven ability to troubleshoot and resolve complex technical problems.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills; confident in client-facing situations and building strong working relationships.
  • Degree or Apprenticeship in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering (or equivalent).
  • Strong planning and time management skills, with the ability to manage workloads across the South West region and meet client SLA requirements.
  • High level of proficiency in MS Office and professional report writing.
  • Quality-driven mindset with a continuous improvement focus.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to consult and advise clients at a technical level.
