Principal Engineer - Bristol

A specialist UK-based Engineering and Environmental Consultancy is seeking an experienced and forward-thinking Principal Engineer to join their expanding team in Bristol. This is an outstanding opportunity for a senior-level engineer looking to take on leadership, technical oversight, and project development responsibilities within a growing multidisciplinary consultancy.

Essential Criteria:

  • Degree-qualified in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering or a related field.

  • Extensive experience (typically 8+ years) working in a UK-based consultancy environment.

  • Proven track record delivering complex engineering projects from concept to completion.

  • Excellent leadership and mentoring skills.

  • Strong client-facing ability with experience in project development and bid writing.

Desirable Criteria:

  • Chartered status (CEng or equivalent) or actively working towards it.

  • Sector knowledge across infrastructure, highways, drainage or structural engineering.

  • Experience managing junior staff and leading cross-discipline project teams.

  • Familiarity with industry-standard software (e.g., Civil 3D, MicroDrainage, Revit, etc.).

The Role:
You will play a pivotal role in delivering high-profile engineering projects in the region. From technical design to client management and team mentoring, you will help shape the strategic direction of the engineering division in Bristol.

Responsibilities include:

  • Leading multidisciplinary project teams and overseeing technical output.

  • Maintaining and developing client relationships and securing repeat business.

  • Providing strategic input to the development of the engineering division.

  • Supporting and mentoring engineers and graduates through technical development and chartership pathways.

  • Ensuring projects are delivered on time, within scope and to a high technical standard.
