1:1 Teaching Assistant – Primary

We’re looking for a dedicated and caring 1:1 Teaching Assistant to work closely with a primary pupil who needs additional support in class. This is an ideal opportunity for someone with strong interpersonal skills and a passion for helping children with additional needs reach their full potential.

About the Role

You’ll work alongside the class teacher to:

  • Provide 1:1 learning and pastoral support that helps your pupil engage fully in lessons

  • Prepare and adapt resources to make learning accessible and enjoyable

  • Assist with planning and delivery of lessons, both in class and through individual activities

  • Encourage positive behaviour, social interaction, and emotional wellbeing

  • Observe and share progress, offering feedback to teachers to support next steps in learning

You may also assist the wider class group as needed, supporting inclusion and collaboration within the classroom.

What We’re Looking For

We welcome applicants with prior school-based experience or those who bring relevant transferable skills from roles in care, youth work, or similar settings.

You should be able to:

  • Build supportive, trusting relationships with children

  • Communicate clearly with both pupils and staff

  • Work collaboratively as part of a team

  • Show empathy, patience, and a flexible approach to meeting individual needs

  • Remain calm and positive under pressure

A Teaching Assistant qualification or experience supporting pupils with SEND would be an advantage but is not essential.
