Software Manager (Engineering)

Leading High technology manufacturer are currently seeking a Software Manager who will sit withinthe Engineering Management Team. The Software Manager willleadand nurturea team of Software Engineers. The company are a looking for a visionary leader who can inspire their team to expand their skills, collaborate with colleagues to develop cutting-edge, world-class products, and provide exceptional support to the companies valued customers.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and drive thesoftware strategy. Recommend new tools and techniques to continue improving product quality and the development process. Identify opportunities to improve systems and procedures that will keep the company and the software engineeringdepartment at the forefront of technology.
  • Scope and specify the developments and projects needed to meet these strategic goals.
  • Management for a team of software engineers, including reviews in accordance with company policies and providing guidance and technical support.
  • Organise allsoftware resources to develop solutions on time, cost and quality, including capacity planning for the team.
  • Manage and present key performance indicators for your team and present them to engineering management monthly.
  • Work closely with the Engineering management team to proactively develop customer relationships.
  • Ensureengineers collaborate with other parts of the engineering team and business.
  • As the most Senior Software representative undertake customer site visits asrequired.
  • Work with customers, the process engineering team and the wider design engineering team to agree on systems specifications for software components.

The Person

  • Degree, (or equivalent)qualified in a computing and/or physics-related discipline
  • Extensive software experience (includes C++, C, assembler, and PLC programming experience)
  • Significant experience in management anddevelopment of a team.
  • Significant practical experience in C++ development in a real-time control environment. PLC and/or C (embedded real time). C# (Windows Forms or WPF). Borlandwould be an advantage.
  • Experience in developing complex software applications to deadlines, ideally within a commercial or industrial environment.
  • Developing and delivering a software roadmap of work, balancing priority with commercial impact.
  • Experience in leadership in an organisation running Agile Development and DevOps
  • A confident leader who can communicate well with those in their team, their peers and management.
  • A good problem solver and troubleshooter.
  • Talented logical thinker.
  • Positive and enthusiastic about developing functionally correct software.
  • Attention to detail.
  • Keen to learn new skills and embrace working in an environment of rapid development and change.

The following skills and experiences are desirable but not essential:

  • UML, TCP and UDP socket communications, Serial Protocols (RS232/RS485), Field bus systems (Profibus/DeviceNET/Ethernet-based), Motion Control (Servos and Steppers), PLC (programmable logic controllers), Embedded PC systems, HMI (Human/Machine interface) design. Continuous integration (and unit testing), Source Control.
