Strategic Town Planner
Location: Bristol

Penguin Recruitment is delighted to be supporting a respected and forward thinking planning consultancy in their search for a Strategic Town Planner to join their Bristol team. This is an excellent opportunity for a planning professional with strong analytical and strategic skills who enjoys working on high level planning policy, site promotion, and long term development strategy.

The Role
As a Strategic Town Planner, you will play a key role in promoting land through the Local Plan process, preparing policy representations, supporting strategic site assessments, and contributing to high level planning strategies. You will work closely with clients, landowners, and multidisciplinary teams to influence plan making and secure long-term development opportunities.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Preparing and submitting representations to Local Plan consultations

  • Undertaking strategic site assessments and feasibility studies

  • Reviewing emerging planning policy and advising clients on strategy

  • Supporting the promotion of strategic land through the plan-making process

  • Preparing evidence-based planning reports, statements, and strategy documents

  • Liaising with clients, local authorities, and external consultants

  • Assisting with stakeholder engagement and public consultations

  • Contributing to client relationship management and business development activities

About You
We are seeking a forward thinking and analytical Strategic Town Planner who thrives on policy focused work and long term planning strategy. You'll be commercially aware, detail-oriented and confident working on complex planning matters.

Requirements:

  • RTPI accredited degree or relevant postgraduate qualification

  • MRTPI status or currently working towards chartership

  • Relevant experience in planning, ideally with exposure to strategic or policy work

  • Strong understanding of Local Plan processes and wider planning policy

  • Excellent written, analytical, and research capabilities

  • Strong communication and client-facing skills

  • Ability to manage multiple deadlines and work efficiently

  • Full UK driving licence beneficial but not essential
