Our client is looking for an ambitious manufacturing engineer to join their manufacturing engineering team to support the design and implementation of next-generation manufacturing processes. You'll be at the heart of the production facility in Bristol. The role involves working on cutting-edge machines and leading the development and optimisation of post-processing. You will be responsible for day-to-day shop floor assistance, making improvements to achieve our capacity plan, managing smaller-scale projects, and working with seniors on larger projects. The role also includes problem-solving, collaboration with other functions, and mentoring more junior members of the team.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Diagnose and resolve manufacturing issues through effective corrective actions, using data analysis to monitor performance and drive continuous improvement.
  • Design and optimise workstation layouts, identify and implement process and capacity improvements, and scope, source, and deliver new manufacturing equipment.
  • Use CAD/CAM to design and manufacture fixtures or tooling, and run trials with new tools, machines, and processes to validate performance.
  • Work with suppliers to deliver high-quality, cost-effective solutions.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to meet production targets.
  • Provide feedback to improve product design for manufacturability.
  • Manage small-scale roadmap projects, including planning, reporting, and stakeholder communication.
  • Document processes, trials, and improvements to ensure repeatability.

Essential Requirements:
  • Relevant engineering degree with 3+ years of experience or relevant formal qualifications (e.g., NVQ level 5) with 5+ years of experience.
  • Demonstrated ability to identify improvement opportunities, define them as viable projects, execute them efficiently, and implement stable solutions.
  • Capable of accurately diagnosing process issues, determining root causes, and applying effective corrective actions to ensure problems do not reoccur.
  • Ability to quickly understand technical issues, communicate them effectively to both technical and non-technical stakeholders, and produce clear, well-structured documentation.
  • Track record of leading small to medium impact projects.
  • Proficient in using a CAD package.
  • Ability to understand Geometric Tolerancing and Dimensioning.
  • Good understanding of manufacturing capability by process.
  • Great digital skills, including high computer literacy and familiarity with Office 365 and databases.

Beneficial Requirements:
  • Competent in manufacturing in at least one of our core processes: 3D metal printing, turning, milling, grinding, honing or assembly and test.
  • Experience or qualification in Lean or Six Sigma.
  • Previous success in developing robust manufacturing processes for volume production.
  • Understanding of all elements in setting up a new process, including requirements, specification, concept design, detailed design, FAT and SAT requirements, procurement, trials, installation, and integration into the production line.
  • CNC programming experience, creating programs to machine difficult materials and achieve single digit micron tolerances.
  • Working knowledge of in-process control and the steps required to take a process from low to medium production volumes.
  • Competent understanding of inspection methods, the best equipment, and the relevant capability.
