A local engineering company are now looking for a Production Engineer to join their team.

Production Engineer - Job Overview

We are looking for an enthusiastic and driven Production Engineer to join our manufacturing team. The successful candidate will be responsible for supporting production operations by improving manufacturing processes, introducing new products to the shop floor, and leading efficiency and ergonomic improvement projects. This role requires hands-on problem solving, collaboration across departments, and strong coaching abilities to uplift team capability and performance.

A core focus will be on delivering long-term strategic improvements, reducing operational costs, and enhancing workplace ergonomics to ensure a safe, productive, and scalable manufacturing environment.

Production Engineer - Key Responsibilities

Manufacturing Support & Process Optimization

Develop and refine production processes, work instructions, and tooling specifications.

Drive long-term improvement strategies to enhance productivity and quality.

Support the smooth introduction of new products from design into manufacturing.

Identify and implement cost-saving measures through process streamlining and waste reduction.

CAD & Product Lifecycle Management

Utilize Creo to update and optimize technical drawings, 3D models, and assemblies.

Manage design changes and product data using Windchill PLM, ensuring data integrity across functions.

Collaborate with R&D and design teams to ensure manufacturability and assembly efficiency.

Coaching & Collaboration

Coach operators and technicians on best practices, new procedures, and equipment use.

Act as a key point of contact between engineering, production, and quality teams to resolve manufacturing challenges.

Promote a culture of learning, continuous improvement, and operational excellence.

Workplace Ergonomics & Safety

Conduct ergonomic assessments of production workstations to improve operator comfort and safety.

Design tools, jigs, and fixtures to support ergonomic and efficient manufacturing practices.

Recommend layout and workflow changes to reduce physical strain and enhance productivity.

Continuous Improvement & Cost Reduction

Apply Lean Manufacturing principles (e.g., 5S, Kaizen, SMED) to optimize workflow and reduce waste.

Support cost-reduction initiatives by analysing material usage, labour efficiency, and equipment performance.

Use data-driven approaches to assess current performance and implement sustainable improvements.

Problem Solving & Root Cause Analysis

Lead investigations into production issues, utilizing structured methods to identify root causes and corrective actions.

Work collaboratively with suppliers and internal teams to resolve design and build quality concerns.

Production Engineer - Essential Skills and Qualifications

The ideal candidate MUST come from the Engineering & Manufacturing Industry as a Production Engineer. You will also have the following skills, qualifications and experience.

  • Degree or equivalent in Mechanical, Manufacturing, or Production Engineering
  • Proficient in Creo 3D CAD software.
  • Experienced with Windchill or similar Product Lifecycle Management systems.
  • Solid understanding of manufacturing processes, assembly methods, and design for manufacture (DFM).
  • Demonstrated success in delivering process improvements and cost reductions.
  • Ability to coach, mentor, and influence operators and technicians.
  • Excellent communication, collaboration, and analytical skills.
  • Knowledge of ergonomics and its practical application in a manufacturing environment.

Production Engineer - Desirable Skills

Exposure to Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, or other CI methodologies.

Familiarity with ISO 9001 quality systems and production documentation.

Experience working with ERP systems (e.g., SAP, Microsoft Dynamics).

Experience in the coffee machine or similar consumer appliance sector.
