Academics is working with a supportive and inclusive primary school in Bristol seeking a dedicated Teaching Assistant to work 1:1 with a Year 5 pupil who is currently at risk of permanent exclusion. This is a part-time, mornings-only role, ideal for someone with a calm, resilient approach and experience supporting children with SEMH needs.

  • Support a child with an SEMH profile, currently undergoing assessment for ADHD and Autism, and with an EHCP in place
  • Use low-arousal, consistent strategies-such as tactical ignoring-to manage verbal dysregulation, including inappropriate or sarcastic remarks
  • Remain mindful of the pupil's history of physical dysregulation and previous incidents of absconding
  • Establish a strong, positive relationship through shared interests; the pupil engages particularly well with adults who are enthusiastic about sports.
