We work on behalf of a brilliant special school on the outskirts of South Bristol that are looking for a full-time SEMH 1-1 Learning Support Assistant to support a student in a year 4 class. The school look after students with Social, Emotional & Mental Health needs (SEMH) for ages 4-16.
We have 2 full-time members of staff working at the school currently, who absolutely love their time there, commenting on how supportive of a team they are. The school are also incredibly supportive of candidates who wish to develop into more senior roles and will support TA's wanting to start their teacher training.
The role
This role is working 1-1 with a girl aged 9 years old with fairly complex SEMH. The student has difficulties in managing their emotions, behaviour and mental wellbeing. These difficulties can manifest in various ways, such as emotional outbursts, difficulty forming relationships, low self-esteem, anxiety and other behavioural issues.
You must be proactive, positive, patient and confident in dealing with challenging behaviour. Being able to easily form bonds is going to be important clearly. Due to the needs of the student it is essential that you have worked with SEMH before in some capacity.
