The Ministry of Defence (MoD) at Brize Norton, Oxfordshite is seeking a passionate and skilled Mental Health Social Workerto join the dedicated Department of Community Mental Health (DCMH). This is an exciting chance to make a real difference to the lives of service personnel and their families, working within the Defence Mental Health Social Work Service and the wider Defence Mental Health Services.
Key Responsibilities:
As a Mental Health Social Worker, your main duties will include (but are not limited to):
- Working with service personnel to get them back into service or those beingmedically discharged from the military due to mental health diagnosis ranging from depression, bipolar, adjustment disorders, post-traumatic stress disorder
- Sick at home support, liaising within the military support system and community services, referring to various charitable organisations and supporting housing issues
- Pension and compensation advice
- Senior safeguarding lead within the DCMH and wider circle i.e. G.Ps and health colleagues
- Offer carer support and can support service users for up to two years following discharge date after DCMH support finished, so working independently
- Managing a diverse patient caseload efficiently and effectively

QUALIFICATION MINIMUM AND EXPERIENCE
ESSENTIAL:
- Individuals must possess a Degree and/or Diploma in Social Work or a suitable equivalent that is recognised by Social Work England
- Must be currently registered with Social Work Englandand must produce proof of registration when required
- Possess or undergo a DBS check
- Possess a full and valid UK driving license
- Must be able to demonstrate that extensive post qualifying experience in mental health social work has been gained and put into regular practice
- Must have recognised, relevant and significant social work experience and delivery in a mental health setting such as a CMHT, Hospital or other recognised and relevant mental health team
DESIRABLE:
- Experience with a wide range of Mental Health conditions and with Regionally associated legal and regulatory issues, (it is recognised that these can differ in, for example, Scotland)
- Significant experience of working in a multi-disciplinary mental health setting
- Previous experience or knowledge of Tri-Service resettlement procedures and/or NHS Hospital discharge procedures
- Previous mental health social work experience in, or associated with, the Armed Forces
