Electrical Estimator

Straight-Line Civils are currently hiring an Electrical Estimator to be based out of a Head Office in Bromsgrove.

This company provides expert civil engineering solutions, delivering projects that span infrastructure, utilities, and complex groundworks. Their work combines technical precision with innovative methods to ensure safe, efficient, and high-quality results.

You will be responsible for preparing accurate, competitive tenders and costings for industrial electrical projects, including water industry (WIMES) works, utilities, and wider M&E projects. You will be working closely with the design and project delivery teams to ensure bids are technically compliant, commercially sound, and reflect real delivery costs.

Key Responsibilities:

• Review tender documents, drawings, and specifications
• Prepare detailed cost estimatesfor electrical works (labour, materials, subcontractors, prelims, overheads)
• Issue supplier/subcontract enquiries, review returns, and compile bid comparisons
• Develop clear bid summariesand present to senior management
• Work with design engineers to validate technical solutions and identify value-engineering opportunities
• Maintain estimating database and cost libraries
• Attend pre-tender and mid-tender meetings with clients where required
• Support handover of successful tenders to project managers, including clarifying assumptions, risks, and scope items

Requirements:

• Background in electrical estimating for industrial / commercial
• Familiarity with WMES / water treatment / MCCs / LV distribution / containment / cabling
• Proficient with MS Excel, estimating software/tools, and good general IT skills
• Pricing structures, risk, and exclusions
• Numerically strong, detail-focused, and commercially aware

Desirable:

• Formal electrical qualification (HNC/HND, ONC, apprenticeship background)
• Understanding of NEC contracts,
• Knowledge of Amtech/Trimble ProDesign (or equivalent)
• Client-facing experience in bid presentations and negotiations
• Experience in both subcontract and main contractor estimating environments

Pay - 50,000 to 55,000
