JOB OVERVIEW

We have a fantastic new job opportunity for a Communications Officer / Events Coordinator who has previous experience of planning / managing events, developing social media content, preparing press releases and digital communications to promote campaigns and events with a proficient level of English, both written and verbal.

The department focus on waste minimisation, recycling and sustainability by promoting their shared wastes services for the local region.

This role is known officially within the organisation as a 'Shared Waste Communication Officer’

As the Communications Officer / Events Coordinator you will have experience of writing and presenting interesting and engaging content to a variety of audiences including in person, print and social media, with an ability to demonstrate the impact made.

This will be a rewarding opportunity for a motivated professional with experience of dealing with schools and using social media to implement a dynamic waste and recycling communications plan. As the Communications Officer / Events Coordinator you will use your passion and enthusiasm for recycling to create and deliver information to the public and stakeholders.

DUTIES

Your duties as a Communications Officer / Events Coordinator will include:

  • Lead on the development of the shared waste service communications plan in liaison with the shared waste service management team and key stakeholders. To include social media, press coverage, websites, digital communication to promote campaigns and events, and drive behavioural change and communicate service updates fostering high participation in services
  • Lead in the development, design and maintenance of promotional and educational material, to assist in environmentally sustainable services, waste minimisation, recycling and reuse
  • Lead in the development, design and delivery of educational presentations and promotional activities to promote correct participation of the services and aims around waste minimisation, recycling and reuse
  • Attend, and/or organise, meetings, workshops, roadshows, and other outreach events which help bring together appropriate people to facilitate engagement and progress across the climate change agenda, waste and recycling
  • Proactively liaise with the Communications Teams to promote participation in the services and events and to provide information for responses to local media enquiries
  • Investigate and develop links within the community and actively pursue partnership schemes in order to make maximum effective use of resources
  • Promote and manage the shared waste services social media presence. Seeking to engage and influence residents
  • Liaise, discuss, influence and respond as necessary, with service providers, waste producers, waste collectors, other local authorities, waste disposal authorities, waste regulation authorities, voluntary groups and all other individuals and organisations that may affect recycling and waste operations
  • Respond to requests for information, and enquiries, prepare and provide accurate advice and information to the public, commerce, schools and local groups on waste related matters
  • Maintain baseline data to enable performance management information and benchmarking on behalf of the Waste Services section

CANDIDATE REQUIREMENTS

  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office
  • Experience of working in, or a demonstrable interest in environmental services or communications sector
  • Experience of developing a range of communications materials including social media, hard copy promotional material, and have experience with IT or oral presentations
  • Experience of responding to complaints in a customer focused environment
  • Confident in conversing in fluent English which is sufficient to fulfil all aspects of the role
  • Experience of planning and managing events
  • DBS clearance (formerly CRB)
  • Driving licence and own vehicle insured for business use
  • The ability and willingness to lift, transport and erect roadshow equipment e.g. gazebo, displays
  • Evening and weekend working
