Market 36 Recruitment Ltd are delighted to be recruiting on behalf of Essex County Council for a Waste Management Officer on a full-time, temporary basis for North Hertfordshire Council.
This key role supports the delivery of waste and recycling services for residents across East and North Hertfordshire. The post holder will engage with residents to assist with queries, facilitate container delivery and collection, and undertake performance and asset monitoring for refuse, recycling, and street cleansing services. Approximately 75% of working time will be lone working within the districts.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Conduct inspections of work carried out by contractors for waste, recycling, and street cleansing, recording findings accurately.
- Undertake asset inspections and local environmental quality surveys, including cleanliness and bin condition.
- Maintain records and perform administrative functions associated with waste management IT systems.
- Record incidences of graffiti following set procedures.
- Conduct surveys and audits, including KPI inspections and kerbside recycling participation levels.
- Assess waste and recycling resource requirements for new developments, advising developers in line with policy.
- Facilitate the delivery and collection of containers to residents.
- Provide advice and information to the public and other organisations regarding waste, recycling, and street cleansing services.
- Assist in weekend promotional activities as required.
Successful candidates will have
- Experience working in a waste management environment, including with contractors.
- Excellent keyboard skills and working knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel).
- Basic understanding of health and safety at work.
- Ability to navigate and prioritise routes for visits and audits.
- Ability to work as part of a team, with a proactive and flexible attitude.
