We're seeking an experienced CNC Setter/Operator to join a precision engineering team on a 10-month fixed-term contract, starting immediately.

You'll be machining cast iron components (primarily housings and flanges) on a Makino a77 horizontal machining centre, using existing machine programs and performing accurate in-process inspection.
Batch sizes are typically 8-10 parts per day, with longer machine cycle times, so attention to detail and efficient setup is essential.

Key Responsibilities

  • Set up and operate CNC 3/4-axis milling machines (HMC - Fanuc-based control).
  • Machine cast iron housings/flanges from raw material using established programs.
  • Load, run, monitor, and inspect small batch runs (8-10 per day).
  • Adjust tool offsets and perform tool setting via a tool presetter.
  • Conduct in-process and final inspection using gauges, micrometers, and CMM equipment.
  • Deburr components and perform pressure testing as required.
  • Maintain accurate quality documentation and follow workshop procedures.
  • Ensure safe working practices and a clean, organised machine environment.

Experience & Skills Required

  • Proven experience setting and operating CNC milling machines (3 or 4 axis).
  • Experience with Fanuc controls (advantageous).
  • Comfortable machining cast iron and working to tight tolerances.
  • Competent with tool presetting, basic offsets, and in-process adjustments.
  • Ability to interpret engineering drawings and follow work instructions.
  • Experience with CMM or precision inspection equipment.
  • High attention to detail, proactive mindset, and reliable work ethic.

What's on Offer

  • 10-Month Fixed-Term Contract with an immediate start.
  • Stable 4-on / 4-off working pattern
  • Modern, well-equipped precision workshop environment.
  • Opportunity to work with a respected engineering manufacturer.

Shift Pattern: 4 on / 4 off, Monday-Sunday, 8:00am-7:00pm (30-minute unpaid lunch)

Salary: 30,000 - 34,000 (PRO-RATA)

On-Site Role: 100% workshop-based
