The RoleWe are recruiting for a skilled and adaptable Electrical Design Engineer to join a dynamic and expanding fire systems business operating across a variety of commercial and residential projects. Working as part of a collaborative technical team and reporting to senior management, you will be responsible for the design and development of fire detection, suppression and alert systems as well as security systems, ensuring compliance with British Standards and client specifications.

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Designing compliant fire detection, suppresion and alert systems in accordance with BS 5839 and relevant industry standards
  • Designing security systems
  • Producing accurate design schematics and layout drawings using AutoCAD
  • Collaborating with project and installation teams to ensure seamless project delivery
  • Conducting site visits and surveys to assess requirements and validate designs
  • Supporting client meetings and technical discussions to present and explain design solutions
  • Creating technical documentation, design reports and system specifications
  • Ensuring designs meet regulatory, safety and cost parameters
  • Providing input into system integration with other life safety and building management systems
  • Staying up to date with industry developments and best practices
  • Responding to shifting project demands and contributing flexibly within a growing and fast-paced environment

RequirementsCandidates should ideally have experience in the design of fire alarm systems for commercial and/or residential applications. Familiarity with BS 5839, AutoCAD, and FIA training or equivalent is highly desirable. This role requires someone who is agile, proactive, and comfortable adapting to changing priorities in a growing business. Strong communication and problem-solving skills are key, along with the flexibility to work across multiple sites and projects.This role could suit someone who has worked as a Fire Systems Designer, Electrical Project Engineer, or Fire Alarm Design Consultant.
