Mechanical Fitters - Ipswich - Immediate Starts Available
26-30 per hour | Long-Term Work | Substation Project
LRL are currently recruiting experienced Mechanical Fitters to join a major industrial substation project based in Ipswich. This is a fantastic opportunity to work with a leading contractor on a long-term, high-profile job with excellent rates and consistent hours.
Job Overview:
You will play a key role in the installation and assembly of GIS (Gas Insulated Switchgear) systems, supporting essential works on a high-voltage substation. This is a hands-on, physically demanding role suited to candidates with a strong background in industrial or power transmission environments.
Key Responsibilities:
Installation of GIS and GIB systems
Mechanical fitting of busbars, steel structures, and earthing systems
Working from detailed technical drawings
Carrying out inspections, adjustments and alignments
Supporting other trades as required in a collaborative team environment
Following strict safety protocols on a high-risk site
Essential Requirements:
Proven Mechanical Fitting experience within substations or heavy industrial environments
- National Grid Ticket
Specific experience with GIS/GIB installation is essential
Valid CSCS or CCNSG Safety Passport
Relevant mechanical qualifications (NVQ, City & Guilds, etc.)
Competent understanding of substation earthing and structural fitting
Able to commit to an 11-day rotation pattern
Pay Rates and Hours:
Monday to Friday: 26.00 per hour
Saturday: 28.00 per hour
Sunday: 30.00 per hour
Weekdays: 10-hour shifts
Weekends: 8-hour shifts
Rotation: 11-day fortnight (Work 11 days, 3 days off)
Location:
Ipswich - accessible to local and travelling labour. Long-term project with scope for continuation for the right candidates.
