Bury Council is seeking experienced Building Surveyors to join our Housing Services team on a temporary basis. This role involves scoping, procuring, and delivering a range of decent homes investments including roofing, kitchens, bathrooms, windows, and doors. The successful candidate will have technical experience, excellent customer service skills, and ideally some background in social housing and project management of smaller contracts.

Day-to-Day of the Role:
  • Carry out comprehensive in-house technical surveying and inspection relating to repairs, maintenance, and refurbishment of council homes and public buildings.
  • Ensure the housing stock and public buildings are maintained in a reasonable state of repair through robust property inspections and specifying effective and efficient remedial works and investment.
  • Provide support to the Assets, Repairs, and Neighbourhoods teams by offering specialist technical advice.
  • Oversee projects, ensuring health and safety procedures and safe systems of work are adhered to by service providers.
  • Prepare specifications for a range of remedial works and ensure all aspects of CDM regulations are incorporated into specifications as appropriate.
  • Collaborate with contractors, organising and coordinating the works, ensuring contractors have the necessary information to execute tasks efficiently.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
  • RICS accredited degree or equivalent.
  • Satisfaction of RICS Assessment of Professional Competence.
  • Significant experience and expertise in domestic properties and public buildings.
  • Strong knowledge and experience in contractor management.
  • Experience managing property-related project budgets and planned property maintenance and investment.
  • Ability to work accurately under pressure and effectively communicate complex information to all levels of staff.
  • Computer literate with proficiency in Microsoft Office software.
