Become a Step Forward Foster Carer – A Life-Changing Opportunity for Community Payback Supervisors
Foster with TACT Fostering and Bury Council
Are you a Community Payback Supervisor who thrives on helping others turn their lives around through structure, support, and second chances? You already have the patience, resilience, and relationship-building skills needed to make a powerful impact in a young person’s life.
We’re looking for supportive, grounded individuals like you to become Step Forward Foster Carers — offering a safe, stable home to a young person transitioning out of residential care. This is a unique opportunity to take your experience working with challenging behaviours and help shape a young person’s future in a family environment.
What is Step Forward Fostering?
Step Forward Fostering is an innovative programme supporting young people who’ve experienced trauma, loss, and instability, helping them move from residential care into a nurturing home environment.
These young people don’t just need a roof over their head — they need someone like you: someone who understands structure, consistency, and the power of positive role models.
As a Step Forward Foster Carer, you’ll be supported every step of the way by a team of professionals. You’ll never be alone on this journey.
What You’ll Receive:
We recognise that caring for a young person with complex needs requires emotional and practical support — and we’ll make sure you have it.
Specialist Support:
- A dedicated Senior Practitioner providing regular guidance and supervision
- A Family Wellbeing Worker to support both you and the young person
- A Hub Carer offering up to 28 days of planned short breaks per year
- 24/7 Out-of-Hours Support
- A network of Step Forward Carers for peer support
- Ongoing training in trauma-informed care and understanding neurodiversity
- Therapeutic and psychological support tailored to your journey
Financial Package:
We want you to focus on care, not costs. That’s why we offer a generous financial package:
- £1,052 per week while a child is placed with you (around £54,704 per year)
- £408 per week retainer between placements (up to £21,216 per year)
- Additional allowances for birthdays, holidays, and cultural needs
- Tax exemptions designed specifically for foster carers
Is This You?
We are looking for Community Payback Supervisors who are:
- Passionate about helping people grow through care, structure, and support
- Skilled at building trust, managing behaviours, and creating safe environments
- Calm, resilient, and committed to long-term change
- Ready to bring their life-changing skills into a home-based setting
To Be Eligible, You’ll Need:
- Experience working with people in the justice or community rehabilitation system
- Full-time availability and a spare bedroom
- A willingness to complete our professional training
- The right to work in the UK
Take the next step in your career and become a Step Forward Foster Carer. Your experience as a Community Payback Supervisor could be the foundation for a truly life-changing role.
