We have a fantastic opportunity for a Qualified Health and Safety Advisor at Bury Council, this is a full-time Temporary role for the next 6 months, with the possibility of extension.
What is the role?
Bury Council are looking for a Qualified Health and Safety Advisor, to coordinate health and safety measures across the Council, to minimise risk ensure compliance with legislation and promote best practice. To support the development of arrangements and practices that mainstream health and safety and encourage a positive, enabling culture across the organisation.
What are your responsibilities?
- Keep abreast of new and changing legislation in the areas of health and safety, statutory duties, best practice and specialist areas - for example, asbestos management and auditing, HSE documentation and updates - making recommendations for implications for the Council.Â
- Deputise for the Lead Health & Safety Advisor as the Council’s designated specialist lead for health and safety compliance and assurance where necessary.
- Provide advice and guidance across the Council verbally and in writing where  appropriate
- Lead projects to review, develop and implement existing/new Health and Safety policies, procedures, guidance and arrangements:
- Carry out research and interpret relevant legislation, standards and recognised good practice and the implications for the Council.
- Develop new policy, strategies and arrangements in consultation with all stakeholders in conjunction with senior staff
- Assist in the implementation across the Council including effective  communications and awareness raising and promotion, suitable web page content and training arrangements
- Monitor progress, gather feedback and keep content relevant and updated in accordance with agreed timescales.
- Develop coaching skills and use these and relevant communication methods to contribute to the mainstreaming of health and safety across the Council.
- Promote best practice and a positive and enabling health and safety culture taking a proportional approach to risk management.
- Use the on-line reporting system to report RIDDOR accidents/incidents to the HSE in conjunction with the team/relevant service.
- Liaise with other health and safety and wellbeing professionals across the Council to:
- Assist in the practical interpretation of occupational health advice relating to appropriate workplace actions.
- Assist in undertaking specialist risk assessments that take account of individual’s vulnerabilities.
- Feedback information on workplaces to occupational health to ensure that the service has a fully informed basis from which to develop advice.
What skills do you Need?
- Must have recent experience of working as an Qualified Health and Safety Advisor.
- Level 5 Qualification
- Hybrid Working
- Must be physically fit and healthy, as you will be working outside and visiting different locations within the borough.
- Excellent people skills, as you will be speaking to the public, other members of staff and managers.
- Full UK Driving Licence, and access to a vehicle
- Strong IT Skills, as you will be using Microsoft Office, including internal systems as well.
