Summary:
We are delighted to be supporting an environmental recycling solutions company in their search for an experienced Transport Supervisor.
The primary responsibility of this role is to effectively manage and coordinate the operation of a fleet of LGV vehicles dedicated to waste collection and disposal. The goal is to ensure maximum efficiency, legal compliance, and productivity across all driver and vehicle activities.
Key responsibilities:
Fleet & Operational Management
- Plan and route vehicles to optimise efficiency, reduce dead mileage, and meet productivity targets.
- Monitor driver performance in real time; address any shortfalls through reporting and corrective action.
- Ensure all driver tachographs are checked, recorded, and filed in accordance with legal standards.
- Maintain compliance with the Road Traffic Act and the Environmental Protection Act.
- Prepare cost-effective waste disposal schedules using both internal and external landfill sites.
Compliance & Safety
- Enforce compliance with company policies, safety standards, and legal requirements.
- Oversee vehicle defect reporting and ensure timely servicing in coordination with the workshop.
- Ensure all operational sites, including vehicle parks and offices, are kept clean, safe, and organised.
- Promote and enforce the use of PPE and adherence to health and safety procedures.
Customer Service & Administration
- Receive and process customer orders, manage bookings, and provide pricing from approved rate lists
- Ensure documentation from drivers is complete, accurate, and prepared for system entry.
- Maintain credit control procedures, including the management of customer stop lists and cash sale policies.
General Duties
- Adhere to all company policies, procedures, and GDPR regulations.
- Maintain confidentiality and professionalism in all matters.
- Be flexible to relocate or support other sites when required.
- Undertake any other reasonable tasks as requested to support business operations.
Ideal Candidate:
- First-line people leadership experience, ideally in a multi-service delivery setting.
- Customer-facing experience in a multi-drop environment.
- Good working knowledge of the geographical area.
- Experience in fleet or transport management, preferably in waste, logistics, or related sectors.
- Strong understanding of driver legislation, routing logistics, and health & safety.
- Ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced, customer-focused environment.
- Competent in using logistics or transport management systems (TMS) and standard office software.
