We're looking for a talented and experienced Senior Design Engineer to join our innovative product development team in Cambridge. In this role, you'll lead the design and development of complex mechanical components and systems - from concept through to production - with a strong focus on high-precision, high-volume manufacturing.
Responsibilities for the Senior Design Engineer:
- Plans and tracks activities to meet project deadlines.
- Designs plastic injection-moulded products and test equipment using CAD.
- Capable of designing mechanical mechanisms.
- Expert in industrial design and surface modelling for concept development.
- Specializes in design for high-volume manufacturing.
- Conducts lab testing and documents results.
- Prepares and reviews design specs, validation documents, and test protocols.
- Applies industry standards and regulatory guidance (e.g. ISO 13485, ISO 14971, 21 CFR 820.30).
- Performs risk analysis (FMEA) and tolerance analysis (TAN).
- Collaborates with external suppliers for parts and services.
Requirements for the Senior Design Engineer
- Strong Creo user with expertise in advanced surfacing.
- Skilled in building complex surfaces from industrial design (ID) models.
- Mechanical Engineering or product design background.
- Extensive experience with injection-moulded parts.
- Medical device design experience preferred but not essential.
- Proficient in rapid prototyping.
- Solves complex problems using first principles and diverse information sources.
- Works independently with minimal guidance.
- Supports and mentors less experienced colleagues.
- Leads small projects in collaboration with Programme Management.
