Head of Marketing and Communications (HMC)

Location: Cambridge

Salary: up to £70,000 per annum

The Role

A rare and exciting position has arisen at The School for a Head of Marketing and Communications. This is a fantastic opportunity for an exceptional individual to drive a dynamic and integrated approach across digital platforms, media relations, internal messaging and brand development.

The role of leading internal and external communications at The School is fundamental to reinforcing the school’s brand reputation, values, vision and strategic aims. This important leadership position ensures that all communications - whether with prospective families, current parents, staff, alumni, or the wider community - are clear, consistent and aligned with the school’s vision of educational excellence. The successful candidate will play a key role in telling The School story by engaging a wide range of audiences and supporting the school’s vision and values through impactful communications and targeted marketing.

Skills and Qualifications

  • Degree level qualification in a relevant field such as Marketing, Communications and/or Public Relations. Professional Marketing Qualification such a CIM (Chartered Institute of Marketing) Diploma or Certificate
  • Proven experience in leading strategic communications and marketing across a complex organisation, ideally within an education or the wider service sector.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to craft compelling, accurate, and audience-specific content across multiple platforms.
  • Demonstrated success in marketing commercial services or enterprises, ideally within an educational or service sector setting, with the ability to drive engagement and revenue generation.
  • A proactive, creative, and flexible approach, with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced, evolving school environment.
  • Excellent knowledge of digital marketing tools, including social media management, content creation, podcasting, and website optimisation.
  • Experience in brand development and guardianship, ensuring consistency of visual and messaging standards across all communications.
  • Strong analytical skills, with the ability to use data, market trends, and stakeholder feedback to inform strategic decisions and measure impact.
  • Proven ability to manage crisis communications, with experience in risk mitigation and reputational management.
  • High levels of interpersonal and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to build relationships with senior leaders, parents, staff, alumni, media, and commercial partners.
  • Experience of organising and promoting events for diverse audiences, including prospective families and the wider community
