We’re supporting a leading UK infrastructure business in the growth of their in-house Environmental Consultancy team. As part of this, they’re looking to appoint an Ecologist to help shape and deliver ecological services across a diverse range of nationally significant infrastructure projects.
Â
This is a rare opportunity to step into a client-side role with responsibility from day one - advising internal design and construction teams, liaising with regulators, and playing a key role in how ecology is integrated into infrastructure delivery.
Â
Â
The Opportunity
Â
You’ll join a small but growing team of environmental specialists, providing ecological input throughout the full project lifecycle - from early-stage design through to structural delivery. The workload spans multiple infrastructure sectors including highways, energy, and utilities.
Â
You’ll deliver a mix of field-based and desk-based work: from ecological risk assessments and protected species surveys, to advising on Biodiversity Net Gain (BNG), mitigation strategies, and engagement with local communities and regulators.
Â
Â
The Impact You’ll Make
Â
You won’t just be delivering surveys - you’ll be shaping how some of the UK’s most critical infrastructure projects interact with the natural environment.
Â
- Influence how ecological considerations are integrated at every stage of design and construction, ensuring nature is prioritised, not compromised.
- Lead on ecological assessments and field surveys that inform planning, permitting, and mitigation strategies.
- Drive Biodiversity Net Gain outcomes - from baseline assessments to developing creative enhancement plans with regulators and communities.
- Champion innovative tools like satellite-based habitat analysis to make assessments smarter and more efficient.
- Be a trusted advisor to engineers, designers, and project managers, helping embed sustainability into day-to-day decision-making.
Â
Â
What You’ll Bring
Â
You’re someone who combines technical ecology skills with a passion for influencing real-world outcomes.
Â
- Proven experience in habitat classification, protected species work, and ecological risk assessment - both in the field and behind the desk.
- Ability to engage and influence cross-functional teams, from designers to delivery leads and regulatory bodies.
- A practical mindset, ready to adapt advice to suit complex project needs without compromising ecological integrity.
- A desire to take ownership and see your work result in measurable environmental improvements.
- A full UK driving licence and the flexibility to work across sites, with hybrid office/home working.
