Our client, a well-established ecological consultancy based in Cambridge, is seeking a dedicated Consultant Ecologist to join their growing team. This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to a wide range of ecological projects across the region, working alongside experienced professionals in a supportive and dynamic environment.



About the Role

As a Consultant Ecologist, you will play a key role in the delivery of ecological surveys, assessments, and reporting. You'll manage and support projects from initial enquiry through to completion, ensuring high-quality ecological input and compliance with relevant legislation and guidance. The role offers excellent variety, from fieldwork and client liaison to mentoring junior staff and contributing to innovative ecological solutions.



Key Responsibilities

  • Undertake and coordinate ecological surveys (e.g., habitat and protected species surveys)

  • Prepare technical reports, including Preliminary Ecological Appraisals and Ecological Impact Assessments

  • Provide ecological advice to clients and project teams

  • Contribute to the design and implementation of mitigation and enhancement measures

  • Support junior colleagues and promote best practice in ecological consultancy



About You

  • A degree (or equivalent) in ecology, environmental science, or a related discipline

  • Demonstrable experience working within ecological consultancy

  • Strong technical knowledge of UK wildlife legislation and ecological assessment methods

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

  • Full UK driving licence (essential)

  • Protected species licence(s) desirable but not essential
