Polytec are looking for an ambitious Graduate Engineer to join our Cambridge based client that operates at the intersection of biotechnology and engineering. The successful candidate will support product development from concept through to production, working closely with engineers, scientists, and production teams.

Responsibilities

* Designing parts and assemblies for machining and sheet-metal manufacture
* Supporting rapid prototyping (3D printing, test builds, assembly)
* Working with PCB suppliers to ensure designs meet functional/manufacturing needs
* Building and wiring prototypes and adapting early-stage concepts
* Developing Python tools and equipment integrations for workflow automation
* Assisting with product certification processes
* Designing jigs/fixtures, improving production workflows, and maintaining documentation
* Providing general technical support across the organisation

Requirements

* MEng in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline
* Experience or interest in CAD (Fusion 360, SolidWorks) and 3D printing
* Basic Python skills and willingness to develop automation knowledge
* Strong communication skills and ability to work independently
* Practical, hands-on approach to troubleshooting
* Enthusiasm for learning, problem solving, and process improvement
* Familiarity with sensors/microcontrollers, basic manufacturing principles (Lean/Six Sigma), Git, and any bioscience background would be an advantage
