Role: General Foreman
Location: Cambridge (Eastern Highways Alliance Framework)
Contract Type: Freelance / Contract
Day Rate: 400 - 450 per day (dependent on experience)
The Role:
A leading civil engineering contractor is looking for a proactive and experienced General Foreman to join their team on a long-term highways framework in Cambridge. This is a hands-on, site-based role where you will be responsible for the day-to-day supervision of a variety of civils schemes.
You will be the vital link between the site management and the workforce, ensuring that all works are carried out safely, to the highest quality, and in line with the project program. The ideal candidate will be a natural leader with a strong technical background in highways, groundworks, or drainage.
Key Responsibilities:
Directly supervise and coordinate site operatives, subcontractors, and plant.
Ensure all works are carried out in strict accordance with the approved method statements and risk assessments.
Lead daily briefings and toolbox talks, promoting a strong safety culture on site.
Manage the logistics of plant, labor, and materials to ensure efficient and timely delivery of work.
Conduct regular site inspections and enforce compliance with all Health & Safety regulations.
Maintain accurate daily site diaries and records of progress, resources, and any on-site issues.
Proactively identify and resolve on-site challenges to keep the project on track.
Required Experience & Qualifications:
Significant experience as a General Foreman or Working Foreman on heavy civil engineering or highways projects.
A proven track record of supervising and motivating site teams.
Strong technical knowledge of highways construction, drainage, earthworks, and public realm works.
SSSTS or SMSTS, CSCS (Supervisor), and First Aid at Work certifications are essential.
NRSWA Supervisor qualification is highly desirable.
Excellent communication skills with the ability to lead by example.
