Bioelectronics Engineer

Location: Cambridge area

Salary: 45,000 - 65,000 (depending on experience)

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Bioelectronics Engineer to join a fast-growing, venture-backed technology company operating at the intersection of bioelectronics, data, and advanced manufacturing. This role sits at the heart of a highly interdisciplinary engineering team working on next-generation technologies with real-world sustainability impact.

This is an ideal role for someone who enjoys hands-on engineering, applied science, and problem-solving in a fast-paced, start-up environment where ideas move quickly from concept to implementation.

The Role

You will play a key role in the design, development, validation, and application of bioelectronic devices and sensors used to monitor cellular systems. Working closely with engineers, scientists, and data specialists, you will contribute to both experimental execution and data-driven insights.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Designing, fabricating, validating, and deploying bioelectronic devices and sensors for cell monitoring
  • Analysing and interpreting bioelectronic and impedance-based data, including equivalent circuit modelling
  • Applying AI and data-driven techniques to correlate electronic and biological data
  • Planning, executing, analysing, and presenting experimental results clearly and accurately
  • Supporting and coordinating cross-functional engineering projects
  • Contributing to the evolution of core platform technology within a growing technical team
  • Senior candidates will have the opportunity to take on technical leadership responsibilities and potentially progress into a team lead or Head of Bioelectronics position.

Essential experience:

  • Bachelor's degree (or higher) in Electrical & Electronic Engineering, Bioengineering, Chemical Engineering, Biochemical Engineering, or similar
  • Strong hands-on experience designing, fabricating, and testing bioelectronic devices for cellular monitoring
  • Practical skills in electrode design, circuit design, PCB development, and soldering
  • Experience analysing data from bioelectronic sensors, including equivalent circuit modelling
  • PhD or a minimum of 3 years' relevant industry or research experience beyond undergraduate level
  • Practical cell culture experience (mammalian cells, adherent and/or suspension)

Desirable experience:

  • AI or advanced data analytics applied to biological or sensor data
  • Bioreactor use or development (micro or large-scale)
  • Experience with fabrication techniques such as prototyping, lithography, 3D CAD, moulding, 3D printing, or metalwork
  • Computational modelling, including CFD or biological system modelling
  • Integrating bioelectronic sensors into bioreactor systems
  • Equipment sourcing and technical procurement
