Purpose of Job:As a Painter/Decorator Handyman, you will be an integral part of a small maintenance team, undertaking both preventative and reactive maintenance tasks. Your role is crucial in maintaining the built environment to ensure it meets the highest standards of safety, functionality, and aesthetics.

Principal Accountabilities:

  • Painting and Decorating: Perform a variety of painting and decorating tasks, including surface preparation, application of paints, varnishes, and wallpapers to various surfaces.
  • Tiling: Carry out tiling tasks, including the preparation of surfaces, cutting tiles to size, and applying adhesives and grouts.
  • Maintenance Tasks: Assist with general maintenance tasks such as minor carpentry, building repairs, and basic plumbing.
  • Health and Safety: Ensure all health and safety practices are followed and stay updated with changes in legislation related to the built environment and health and safety.
  • Cost Estimates: Assist the Maintenance Supervisor in preparing cost estimates and other related activities.
  • Documentation: Keep all documentation for works undertaken up to date and readily available using online systems.
  • Customer Service: Maintain effective liaison and collaboration with university staff, students, and client user departments to ensure excellent customer service.
  • Team Collaboration: Work closely with other teams within Estates and Facilities Services, embracing our “One Team” approach to achieve successful task completion.
  • Travel: Travel between campuses may be required, along with some weekend and out-of-hours work as requested by the Maintenance Supervisor.
  • Data Protection: Comply with Data Protection Act 2018 and GDPR requirements, ensuring confidentiality, integrity, and security of information.
  • Additional Duties: Perform other duties as required, commensurate with your grade.
